The new commandment: We live to love
The closer we get to understand and implement God’s Word in our lives, the more are the challenges that we hear. By training daily in the heart ‘s gym are countless the exercises and efforts to be incurred to follow and imitate our ‘trainer’ the Master. Each one of us on wants a healthy and happy life, has dreams, projects, or in this current time , the resolutions for the new year just begun. We try sometimes like in a gym to get results fast, unaware of the consequences and steps to follow. We get discouraged, tired and lose faith, the way and the truth that in the beginning we have placed in our path: love.
Not the Love seen as a physical attraction but as a force of creation, breath of life, and the Divine design by which we exist, we are heirs and fellow travelers, co authors of our destiny and the world that we build. We can be rich or poor, strong or weak, professors or students, workers or general managers but we all have an innate potential: the wealth in loving.
Yes, in our small way, in the classroom or the assembly line of a factory, serving coffee in a restaurant or driving a tram, between hospital wards or in the narrow streets to clean of our cities, in political speeches or friends talk , that’s us : made from love to give love. It would seem as easy as seeing an athlete who casually performs an exercise in artistic gymnastics, we enjoy the show despite not having attended the continuous training , the sacrifices and privations that have made possible this execution. Then how to do? In our training manual, the Master Jesus shows us a new exercise to follow, to master:
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13: 34-35)
Now it is up to us to understand where we do not love, and to whom we deny it. Where we do not bring the light of Christ with our gestures and words or we do not try to put ourselves in the other shoes . In our 48th Prayer Marathon we would like to ask the Holy Spirit to enable us to live to love, to understand others and be the light of Christ for Christ among the nations.
