Breathe into us, Holy Spirit, and renew us!
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
The Lord Jesus is risen!
The Solemnity of Pentecost celebrates the fiftieth and final day of the Easter season. Through the rhythm of every liturgical season, the Lord prepares us and invites us to renew our friendship with Him.
At every liturgical celebration, the Holy Spirit is invoked. Yet, many times, we pay little attention and take this invocation for granted. But what exactly are we asking when we ask God the Father to send down the Holy Spirit upon us?
We ask for a profound inner transformation: to be touched in the depths of our hearts by the power of divine creation, by the constant guidance and intervention of God the Father in our lives.
Indeed, we ask for the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit!!!
- Wisdom: to see the world through the eyes of God.
- Understanding: to deeply comprehend the truths of the faith and the hearts of others.
- Counsel: to discern according to the divine will and to choose what is right.
- Fortitude: to receive the spiritual strength and courage needed to overcome the trials of life.
- Knowledge: to recognize and discover the value of creation and all that the Heavenly Father has given us.
- Piety: to kindle in our hearts love for God and a true spirit of brotherhood toward our neighbor.
- Fear of the Lord: to have holy reverence for the love of God and to fear offending Him.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”
(Letter to the Galatians 5:22-25)
We entrust ourselves to the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Spouse and Temple of the Holy Spirit, that we may never drift away from her who, as a loving Mother, guides us to Jesus and intercedes for us.
Breathe into us, Holy Spirit, and renew us!
