Advent 2012, a Christmas reflection
Once again we are in the holy season of Advent preparing for the joy of the Christmas feast. We reflect especially on the Incarnation, the birth of the Lord Jesus in Bethlehem. There are of course many facets of the feast but one that captures the attention of many is the aspect of family life. As we look at the crib at the end of that long low cave where some animals are feeding there is the new born Infant Jesus flanked by His Blessed Mother Mary and foster father Joseph, the Holy Family. As we gaze on the Babe, dependant on His Mother and foster father is difficult to believe that He has come to die rather then to live. By His infinite merits of His Passion, Death and Resurrection , He will reopen the gates of heaven to the whole world. Let us then, in union with our families and in prayer, prepare carefully to welcome the Lord Jesus in the Christmas Eucharist.
A Christmas Prayer
Holy Mother of God and St. Joseph,
help us and our families to prepare a place in the cradle of our souls to receive the infant Jesus and to offer our own humble gifts with the shepherds and the Maji. Let us not forget the poor, those who languish in hospitals and all who need our help, however insignificant that maybe and in so doing help to bring the Lord Jesus closer to all in the Holy Season . We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
