Using the weapons of prayer and fasting.
How can we respond to those who say that it is of no use going to Mass, even on Sunday, because the important thing is to live well, to love our neighbour? It is true that the quality of Christian life is measured by the capacity to love, as Jesus said: “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn 13:35); but how can we practice the Gospel without drawing the energy necessary to do so, one Sunday after another, from the inexhaustible source of the Eucharist? We do not go to Mass in order to give something to God, but to receive what we truly need from him. (Pope Francis 13 December 2017)
As Pope Francis reminded us, in Mass we celebrate the Lord’s Supper (Catechism 1329), the Eucharist (from the Greek eukharistia = thanksgiving), the Holy Sacrifice: holy, because it completes and exceeds all the sacrifices of Ancient Covenant.
Do we have communion? But with whom?
Communion, because through this sacrament we unite ourselves to Christ, who makes us participate in his Body and his Blood to form one body.
The Lord Jesus gives us His Body and His most precious blood to be with us, in us to belong to Him!
In July, dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Christ, we want to strengthen our belonging to the Lord with our prayers and to oppose the action of the ancient enemy, to fight against the forces of evil and to remain in “Communion” with Jesus.
We are Christians because of Christ.
The Christian must be militant; it must be vigilant and strong (1 Peter: 5, 8); and must sometimes resort to some special ascetic exercise to ward off certain diabolical raids; Jesus teaches this by indicating the remedy “in prayer and fasting” (Marc 9, 29). And the Apostle suggests the main line to be kept: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Rom 12, 21, Matthew 13, 29) ….
Then being aware of how important we are in God’s plan also makes us firm on our life choices and above all on the direction to be followed daily.
