The enemy and the battle for eternity

If any war happens for an interest then it is easy to understand that in our earthly life we all share the personal battle for eternity.
The old invisible enemy in fact understands the value of our soul because ‘we are precious to God :
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life’’ (John 3:16)
Then how to defend ourselves from the many trials and pitfalls of everyday life?
Sometimes it seems exaggerated to see the devil everywhere or associate him anything intrinsic and hidden meaning.
But it is evident that the devil exists even though he is doing everything to deny his own existence.
Pope Paul VI in the general audience on November 15, 1972 speaks of the battle against evil:
The devil is the origin of the first misfortune of mankind; he was the tempter sneaky and deadly of the first sin, the original sin (Gen. 3; Wis. 1, 24)
It is the number one enemy, is the tempter for excellence. We know well that this dark and disturbing being really exists, and that still acts with treacherous cunning; It is the hidden enemy who sows errors and misfortunes in human history.
He is the treacherous and wily charmer, that knows how to enter in ourselves , because of the senses, the imagination, concupiscence, utopian logic, or disordered social contacts in the game of our work, to introduce deviations, however apparently equally damaging our facilities comply with physical or mental, or to our instinctive deep aspirations.
Today we prefer to appear strong and unprejudiced ,to pose as positivists, only to give credence to the many free whims magical or popular, or worse opening your soul – your soul baptized, visited so often by the presence of the Eucharist and inhabited by the Holy Spirit! To the licentious experiences of the senses, those deleterious of the drugs, as well as to the ideological seductions of fashion mistakes, these cracks through which the Evil- one can easily penetrate and alter the human mentality.
There are signs, and which, in the presence of the diabolical action?
His action left is where the negation of God becomes radical, subtle and absurd, where the lie is affirmed hypocrite and powerful, against the obvious truth, where love is off by a cold and cruel selfishness, where the name of Christ is challenged with hatred conscious and rebellious.
What are the means of defense against such insidious danger?
We might say: all that defends us from sin protects us thereby from the invisible enemy.
Grace is the decisive defense. The innocence takes on a fortress.
The Christian must be militant; must be vigilant and strong (1 Petr. 5, 8); and sometimes it needs to use some special ascetic exercise to ward off certain diabolical incursions; Jesus teaches it indicating the remedy “in prayer and fasting” (Mk. 9, 29). And the Apostle suggests the main line to be taken: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12, 21; Matth. 13, 29) ….
So being aware of how important we are in God’s plan also makes us steadfast in our life choices, especially on the direction to follow daily.
