Is it normal to be afraid of death?
Speaking of death, the end of our existence here on earth is always a little scary.
The thought of leaving our earthly state and place , the things we know and we can touch , to live and do things we’ve always done. Even if our life will come to an end none of us should ever want to die because ‘life itself is the gift of God. But even Jesus saved us from death at the same time invites us to be always ready, not to turn away from the light of truth. Indeed keep ourselves our lamps burning;
“Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit;; (Luke 12:35)
What promises us our Lord? What lies ahead?
‘’Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. 38 If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.”(Luke 12: 37-38)
If we reflect on the first coming of our Lord Jesus who has brought salvation and we can really understand the great gift that the Father has given us by giving us His son, we should not be frightened by his second coming.
The fear of death, the fear of the uncertain has a real solution : the faith and the example of the Saints.
Yes our Saints that lived a life on earth in a state of grace and sharing of love with the Father through simple daily actions must inspire us to seek the path of simplicity that prepares us for the future life.
Let us prepare to celebrate the feast of All Saints, as a real praise for life , for the love of God to us and any other celebration that glorifies death will never tarnish the light that irradiates the faces of the disciples of Jesus Christ.
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ( Romans 8:38-39)
This halloween , celebrate the light, the life given to us by an act of love.
Let us unite in prayer to aspire to be saints, carrying the light of Christ in our hearts and in the world.
