In Service of God
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Merry Christmas!!!! The light from the cave in Bethlehem continues to shine in the world, even if the world hasn’t fully accepted it. To those who open their hearts to the announcement of the angels in celebration and welcome Jesus, they have the power to become children of God (John 1:1-13).
The proclamation of Christmas resets the priorities of our existence. The Son of God is born humbly in a cave, in the outskirts, in the darkness and cold, far from worldly splendor. He surrounds Himself with uneducated yet simple witnesses, placed in a manger—this is the Lord’s Nativity.
The essence of the Christmas message is this: God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
Jesus is born among the last, and in His earthly mission, as then, He continues to knock on the outskirts of hardened hearts, in the darkness and cold of our city’s Bethlehems, on the faces of the marginalized in our societies; He knocks at our hearts… how are we Christians today?
In a few days, fireworks and celebrations will herald the beginning of a new year. Each of us has our own priorities: work, studies, buying a house, striving for a promotion, etc. But where do we place serving God? The Father who sent His Son to seek us out to the ends of existence…
What purpose in 2024 to serve the Lord? Where to begin?
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)
It’s not easy to get involved, but let’s ask our parishes and make ourselves available. We who ask everything from the Lord, let’s also give the Lord our willingness to serve, keeping the light of Christmas burning throughout the year.
