Come, Holy Spirit, and renew us!
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Christ is risen, Alleluia,
Christ has ascended into heaven, Alleluia.
The disciples receive the Holy Spirit, Alleluia!
Suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 2:2-4)
The Holy Spirit descends upon the apostles to renew, strengthen, reassure, and give courage to hearts and senses frightened by the world and its cruelties. The disciples are ready to proclaim to the world that Jesus Christ is the Lord and that through Him we obtain eternal life.
The descent of the Holy Spirit, as told in the Acts of the Apostles, has always aroused astonishment and curiosity in our faith. But what is its action?
The Holy Spirit strengthens our faith by revealing to us the hidden actions of God in our lives.
The Holy Spirit works in our thoughts to connect and perceive the presence of God in the many moments of our days.
The Holy Spirit instructs our tongues so that they are not instruments of gossip, ridicule, or condemnation, but means of reconciliation with God.
The Holy Spirit controls our limbs so that every action of ours reflects the Creator and the smile of our Heavenly Father.
The Holy Spirit trains our minds to pursue daily peace in our attitudes towards others, preparing us in this earthly life to taste the infinite joys of heaven.
The Holy Spirit is close to us in afflictions, labors, and weariness, for nothing can separate us from the love of God.
The Holy Spirit seeks a dwelling in our hearts; let us open ourselves and not miss this opportunity.
