I am Christian
Je sues …Chrétien………I am Christian….Io soon Cristiano Soy Cristiano
Worldwide, there are nearly 34,000 denominations of Christians, we are a third of the world population, we are many, we are different but we can be united not only by the name of Christ, but especially in the deepest sense of the Gospel.
For various reasons over the centuries the Church of Rome with the first Pope Peter and the rock of the church of Jesus was divided, as are often divided many families and groups of friends, but it is the Gospel still the thread that unites us.
The Good News is distinguished by the message of Love, a Father (Abba) always present, saving us for Love by giving His only Son, suffering and sacrificing to save us.
In each of our Christian denominations by grace or by choice or by sheer coincidence we follow Jesus, His message, His promises, His call and our response …
How can we respond?
‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
( Mathew 22:37-40)
The theme of the week for Christian Unity 2015 is Give me a bit ‘of water to drink
A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, ‘Give me a drink’. ( John 4:7)
Jesus seeks dialogue, asking to taste the water of the Samaritan woman, and teaches us to change our attitude and to seek unity in diversity.
We really have to drink from the wells of salvation, which is Jesus, not excluding anyone, but in dialogue with our Christian brothers and not, accepting all with love and preaching first with our lives. Being different in beliefs and culture can enrich and strengthen our own being disciples of Jesus in 2015.
Often the Lord’s grace is limited by our resistance, Jesus continues to do miracles but are we ready to accept them?
